Today we’re going to hear a short part of a podcast by Anne, who runs “The Island Weekly” for English learners. If you haven’t visited the Island Weekly, yet, you should! It’s a great website for anyone who wants to learn English. (Almost as good, I think, as Bite Sized English.)
In this recording, Anne is going to tell us what her pet peeve is. Of course, if you’ve read the title of this entry, you might know what it is!
After You’ve Heard the Recording
Okay. What do you think about malls and WalMart? (I think it’s cool that I live in the only country where WalMart didn’t have any luck.) Do you agree with Anne’s pet peeve, or do you enjoy shopping in malls?
One of the things that I like about Anne’s recording is that she—as an American—tells us what her pet peeve in America is. Maybe one day I’ll talk to you about my pet peeves in America (I love the U.S., but there are a few). Do you have any pet peeves in your own country?

Hi Toby, thank you so much for this
I’m looking forward to hearing your pet peeves, and those of your students and readers!

Anne. . . I have a lot of different pet peeves. I think I have one for every situation! When I’m driving, it’s inconsiderate drivers. When I’m teaching, it’s students who try to frustrate me just to frustrate me. In my family, it’s when my father starts telling the same (normally, embarrassing) story for the third time.
Maybe it says something about me that I have so many pet peeves!
