Everyday English: Getting Ready for the Baby

| This is an entry in the “Getting Ready for Baby” series. It’s going to be a week of babies! The other entries in this series are: |
You might be able to remember that I posted a lesson on the beginning of my wife’s—and my—pregnancy in February. Well, we’ve gone from the first, through the second, and into the third trimester. Soon, the little guy or girl should be here. Until the baby comes, however, our life is still busy with preparations.
When the baby comes—when we’ve been parents for a month or two—you can expect to hear more vocabulary about babies and things connected to babies. But, this week we’re going to talk about preparation. Specifically, we’re going to talk about preparing for a baby.
This Isn’t What You Want to Learn?
I know that a lot of you think that there’s nothing more baby that babies. . . and the people who talk about them all the time. So, before we talk about what’s coming this week, let me remind you that you can contact me at anytime to suggest topics.
What’s Coming Up This Week?
Expect to learn some of the day-to-day vocabulary of a baby. But also expect to learn some of the vocabulary that’s connected with the birth—the moment that the baby comes into the world. You might think that you’ll never need this vocabulary, but it’s good to have and you never know. . .
But, to make things a bit more interesting, we’re going to talk a little bit about grammar. Yes, this week the grammar is the interesting thing. (I think everything will be interesting.) How many different meanings can you think of for the verb ‘get’? There are a lot of different meanings, and we’re going to talk about just a few of them this week.
Get ready for a week of babies. And baby vocabulary.
