“Spring is Sprung?” When Bad Grammar is Cute
It’s not spring, yet. But when I was out with the dog this morning, the weather was so mild that I was reminded of a poem I’d heard as a kid:
Spring is sprung.
The grass is riz.
I wonder where
The flowers is?
Yup. The grammar in the poem is bad. As adults, we sound a little bit. . . well, less than intelligent when our grammar isn’t correct. It’s why learning grammar is important. But bad grammar can also sound ‘cute.’ You’ll see it a lot when people are trying to talk like children.
My challenge for you: Can you correct the grammar in the poem? I couldn’t correct it so that it rhymed, but I did get it corrected. How many of the errors can you find?
