What is a “Spoken” Entry?
I don’t love the Internet, though my wife thinks I spend too much time at our computer. And I don’t think that the Internet will solve all of our problems. But I do think it has a lot of strengths, and one of them is how easily a ‘web author’ (in this case, that’s me) can combine written words with pictures and sounds. When you’re trying to learn or practice your English, however, it’s easy to see the possibilities this offers.
Spoken Entries
Because the function of Bite Sized English is to help you with your English, I want to offer as much listening exercise as possible. Not all, but most of the entries I make here will be available as ’spoken’ entries. That means you’ll be able to press the ‘play’ button in your web browser to hear the text of the entry spoken aloud.
How you decide to use the spoken entries is up to you. I’ll be posting some suggestions in the How To Learn English series that began today. You can listen while reading, to hear the pronunciation of new vocabulary. Or you can listen before reading, to practice listening. Another option is to speak along with the audio, to train the ‘melody’ of your English.
